COUNCILLOR MARA NAGY
Your Pickering City Councillor for Ward 2
First elected to Pickering Council in 2022, Mara Nagy has spent her first term delivering on her promises and standing up for our community. With a strong track record in local grassroots groups, environmental protection, and worker advocacy, she is honored to continue serving the residents of Ward 2 and building a stronger Pickering for everyone.
Pickering is where Mara grew up, and it is where she and her husband are now raising their own family. Becoming a new mother has only deepened her commitment to our city, giving her a firsthand understanding of what local families need to thrive. From safe neighbourhoods and accessible parks to strong community support.
Mara's passion for our city’s future is backed by a deep professional background in education and community building. On any given day, you might also find her in the classroom, working as an Occasional Teacher across subjects ranging from French and Special Education to History and Phys Ed.
When she isn't at City Hall or teaching, Mara loves supporting our local economy, whether she's checking out new neighbourhood eateries, supporting local small makers, or hunting for historical landmarks across Durham (including local favourite - Pickering Museum Village).
Looking ahead to the next term, Mara is focused on bridging the gap between City Hall and the community. She is committed to making city resources more visible and accessible for young families and long-time residents alike, fostering deeper connections, and uniting our unique neighbourhoods.
From the waterfront energy of Nautical Village to the rural charm of Claremont and Cherrywood. Mara is ready to keep working hard, keeping her promises, and delivering practical results for Pickering’s future.
